This house right here caught my eye because of the tranquility it generates. Located in Connecticut, US, the Lakewood House integrates into its surrounding landscape, and utilizes a closed-loop geothermal heating and cooling system, natural and local materials, and passive solar design. Set in a pine forest near a still lake, this rustic house stages a friendly argument between the built and the natural worlds. Architecture by Centerbrook Architects and Planners.

Also worth checking out are the new, super-efficient air source heat pumps. They get close to the efficiency of ground source, and now operate efficiently to below zero temperatures.
